Sleeping in the vehicle is restricted in Romania and depends on where you stop. A tent needs a campsite or the landowner's word. A pitch runs about €14 a night.

No right to pitch
National law could not be reached, so this is from the parks' own regulations: camping only at arranged and signposted places. Piatra Craiului does allow an emergency bivouac — no fire, and the tent up only between sunset and sunrise. Retezat bans open fire across the entire park; a small stove only.
