Sleeping in the vehicle outside a campsite is not accepted in Croatia. A tent needs a campsite or the landowner's word. A pitch runs about €19 a night.

Croatia — unlike most of Europe there is no parking-versus-camping line here: the law names a motorhome as camping equipment, so overnighting in it counts as camping and belongs at a registered campsite. The rule sits in the hospitality act rather than the traffic code, so it is aimed at camping as an activity — setting up and occupying a spot. The act sets penalties of €190–1,320 with €130 collectable on the spot, and provides for equipment to be sealed and a 60-day bar from the land; those are the statutory maxima for the offence, not what an ordinary night is likely to cost.
