A night on the road
Sleeping in a camper in 🇨🇿 Czechia
Sleeping in the vehicle is restricted in Czechia and depends on where you stop. A tent needs a campsite or the landowner's word. A pitch runs about €15 a night.
The same rules the planner warns with when it puts you to bed in Czechia. Where a rule is what everyone does rather than what a statute says, this page says so.
In the vehicle
Restricted — it depends where
Czechia — a paid rest area or guarded car park is the safe option. Be aware that in ALL forests it is an offence to drive or even to STAND with a vehicle, and national parks and protected landscapes ban staying there with a vehicle or caravan outright.
In a tent
No right to pitch
Camping outside designated places is banned in ALL forests, not just protected ones, and that same rule bans standing a vehicle there too. Šumava does run seven emergency bivouac sites — one night, 18:00 to 09:00, no booking — so the bivouac story is real, but note they forbid fire of any kind INCLUDING camping stoves. České Švýcarsko goes further and bans sleeping outdoors as such, tent or no tent.
🔥 Open fire banned in forests outside designated places, and within 50 m of the forest edge — that 50 m is a FIRE distance, not a camping one. Fines to 10,000 CZK for camping, 30,000 for fire, 100,000 inside a protected area.
The instrument: Lesní zákon 289/1995 §20(1)(k); nature act 114/1992 §16(2)(o); České Švýcarsko §16a(1)(c)
What a night costs
- In the vehicle €0 · derived
- A campsite pitch €15 · derived
- A hostel bed €33 · derived
Per night, for two. A figure marked derived is computed from the country's price level, not read off a price list — the plan says the same.
Plan the drive and we place the nights for you: the free lawful spots first where you sleep in the vehicle, a pitch where you asked for one, each priced the same honest way.
