A night in the vehicle is generally accepted in Hungary. A tent is allowed in places and with conditions. A pitch runs about €14 a night.

In the vehicle

Hungary — nothing found for or against sleeping in a vehicle at a layby; in the forest you may only drive on roads open to traffic or with the manager's consent. Quads and motorcycles are barred from forests entirely.
In a tent
Allowed, with conditions
Not the flat ban the others are — it is a CONSENT rule. With the forest manager's agreement you may camp and pitch a tent; under 24 hours you are simply visiting the forest, which is free. So the question in Hungary is who owns the wood, not whether camping is legal.
🔥 Fire only at designated sites or with written permission, and banned in and within 200 m of forest during a declared high-danger period — a FIRE distance. But a gas burner or closed-firebox stove with a spark arrestor is expressly NOT fire-making, so a camping stove stays legal even then.
