A night in the vehicle is generally accepted in Greece. A tent needs a campsite or the landowner's word. A pitch runs about €17 a night.

In the vehicle
Generally accepted
Greece — we could not reach an instrument on overnighting in a vehicle, so treat it as ordinary parking and read the signs. What is certain: from 1 May to 31 October you may not use a stove or grill outdoors at all, which rules out cooking beside the van for half the year.
In a tent
No right to pitch
Everyone says wild camping is banned in Greece and cites Law 393/1976 for it — that law is about TRAVEL AGENCIES and says nothing of the kind. The ban may well exist, but we could not reach an instrument that states it, so we do not claim one. What IS certain is the fire rule below, which restricts more of an ordinary trip than a camping ban would.
🔥 From 1 May to 31 October, lighting a fire outdoors for camping is prohibited — and so is using a portable stove or grill of any fuel, unless you are on your own property or at a licensed campsite. Greece is the opposite of Hungary here: the camping stove is NOT the exemption (Fire Directive 9/2024, arts. 8–9).
The instrument: Not established. The commonly-cited Law 393/1976 concerns tourist offices and does not support the claim.
