A night in the vehicle is generally accepted in Sweden. A tent has a public right to pitch (allemansrätten). A pitch runs about €23 a night.

Sweden — at a rest area, as a rule 24 hours on weekdays; over a weekend you may stay until the next working day unless a sign says otherwise. Parking in terrain — forest, beach, meadow — is forbidden outright, and the landowner cannot waive it. Allemansrätten covers tents, not the vehicle.
In a tent
There is a right to pitch · allemansrätten
Right of public access. Naturvårdsverket's own guidance is "one or two nights" in one spot, and two or three tents is within the right — a larger group needs the landowner's consent. Avoid cultivated land and pasture. On distance they are explicit that there is NO rule: the privacy zone depends on terrain and fences, and near a house it may be only a few metres.
🔥 The right does NOT include making fire. Use a fixed fireplace or a stove; bans are issued locally, with no fixed season.

Free and nearly free places to stay

Allemansrätten makes a tent free for a night or two almost anywhere, away from houses and cultivated land — and in Sweden that IS the offer. Unlike Finland or Estonia there is no national network of free huts: wind shelters, fire places and dry toilets do exist, but they are run by 21 separate county boards, so plan on the right to roam rather than on finding a shelter.
