Europe's famous road trips, by vehicle
20 of the routes people dream about — what each costs in fuel, tolls and ferries for a car, a car + caravan, a motorhome and a motorcycle, and who may drive it. A car + caravan can drive 10 of them whole, 7 with a bypass, and 3 not at all.

- Road sign at the Lochcarron/Tornapress end of Bealach na Bà (secondary — quoted by The Scotsman): 'This road rises to a height of 2053 ft, with gradients of 1 in 5 and hairpin bends. Not advised for learner drivers, very large vehicles or caravans after first mile.' Alternative low-level route via Shieldaig–Kenmore signed. scotsman.com
- Single-track roads: if you cannot reverse your vehicle several hundred yards on a narrow single-track road you cannot safely drive them; pull into passing places to let faster traffic by; never park in passing places; do not drive in convoy (keep at least one passing place apart). northcoast500.com
