Sleeping in your vehicle or a tent in Sweden
- 🚐 In the vehicle: Generally accepted. Sweden — at a rest area, as a rule 24 hours on weekdays; over a weekend you may stay until the next working day unless a sign says otherwise. Parking in terrain — forest, beach, meadow — is forbidden outright, and the landowner cannot waive it. Allemansrätten covers tents, not the vehicle.
- ⛺ A tent outside a campsite: Right of public access. Naturvårdsverket's own guidance is "one or two nights" in one spot, and two or three tents is within the right — a larger group needs the landowner's consent. Avoid cultivated land and pasture. On distance they are explicit that there is NO rule: the privacy zone depends on terrain and fences, and near a house it may be only a few metres. (Allemansrätten (mentioned in the constitution, no single statute); Terrängkörningslag 1975:1313 bars driving in terrain)
